Softball is a variant of baseball played with a larger, softer ball and an underhand pitching style on a smaller diamond.

1Pitching is underhand and must release the ball at hip level or below
2The bases are 60 feet apart (vs. 90 feet in baseball)
3Standard game is 7 innings; ties may result in extra innings (or international tiebreaker rule)
4Bunting and stealing bases are subject to league-specific rules
5Runners cannot lead off until the pitched ball is released
