The objective

Score more goals than the opponent by shooting the ball into the opposing team's net.

Rules as played today

• 1Players use the stick's head (mesh pocket) to carry, pass, and catch the ball
• 2Body checking and stick checking are allowed in men's lacrosse; not in women's
• 3Crease area (9-foot circle around goal): attacking players may not enter
• 4Shot-clock rules apply in box lacrosse and some field lacrosse levels
• 5Penalty violations result in suspension from play for 30 seconds to 3 minutes in the penalty box
